I was thrilled when SKIRT! Magazine contacted me to be a part of their October issue. The piece above was featured on the cover this month! Skirt uses some of my all time favorite illustrators and artists including; Hadley Hutton, Trisha Krauss, Caroline Hwang and Sophie Blackall. I’m beyond honored to be among these talented women. If you live in the sixteen cities where SKIRT is available pick up a copy. It’s a great magazine geared towards creative, busy (and who isn’t these days!) working women. In other news things things have been busy in the studio with fun projects and the inspiration to dive into some screen printing classes this Nov. in San Francisco. Screen printing has always been a technique that I’ve wanted to experiment with. It’s exciting to learn a new skill that will hopefully complement my work and possibly change the way the line work is communicated in each piece. I think it will be interesting to try a more organic line approach or lose the line all together and build an image just using just layered shapes. And don’t even get me started on the hand lettering aspect of it all. Ahhh…So much to learn!

    Ohio re-cap

    June 26th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Our Ohio trip was a blur. There was so much to do in just a few days but it was great seeing my nephews. Cal is talking up a storm and seemed so big it made me a little sad. Even though I saw him in Dec. it feels like  I’ve missed so much. Having a new brother is a big adjustment so I tried to give him a little extra attention. You can’t imagine how captivated a two year old can be when you can draw on demand. His enthusiam over my animal drawings makes him my favorite Art Director.

    projects and patience

    May 28th, 2009 · 3 Comments

There’s been a lot going on over here these last few weeks. I’ve been working on illustrations for a fun packaging project with the design firm I used to work for in New York (slover & co). Portrait studies of quirky characters cover the walls of my studio with many failed attempts filling my studio trash can. This feels very symbolic to me at the moment. Sometimes it takes so many do overs to get it right. This not only relates to art making but in my relationships and the day to day life stuff. There are times when I feel discouraged but you gotta just get back on that horse…right?  I have lots of deadlines coming up in the next couple weeks. But instead of feeling over whelmed I’m going to try to take breaks every few hours, go for a walk and motivate to take that Wednesday Yoga class. That’s my goal as of 8 a.m today, I’ll let you know how it goes!
