The holidays are over and we’ve all finally recovered from various colds and Hudson’s teething (for now anyway). One of my intentions this year was to blog more, tweet more, do more in the way of  social networking in general but that lasted all of 15 seconds. Then it occurred to me maybe less in more?

In my last post I mention wanting to illustrate a picture book. That same week a publisher from a Canadian press contacted me to see if I was interested in working with them! They had published the cover  I illustrated for Random House and just happened to stop by my blog to look at my work. It felt like fate and I was (and am) ecstatic. I signed the contract last week and will be starting this dream project soon.

Things have been tough on many fronts lately. Honestly, it’s harder than I imagined balancing work, family, friends and all of the other daily responsibilities that seem to pile up. Still searching for a better path towards productivity. The amount of time I used to have to concentrate and produce personal work has been reduced immensely.  There are days when I miss  all that free time to create.  At the same time I’ve never felt more fulfilled and wouldn’t trade this special time with Hudson for anything. When I feel really lost, rereading an old journal reminds me that this is just a familiar pattern. The ups and downs of the creative flow. Hopefully this year will bring more of the ups (work wise) and a better sense of  rhythm to it all . Until then, I’ll keep searching for answers

Hey Aimee! I meant to stop by sooner but I’m also on the motherhood-creative journey. It’s hard for sure but it will get easier and don’t feel guilty about the ups and downs. I’m inspired that you’re still making work and read your blog for motivation. Hang in there!
